Today we are getting wonderful tidbits of knowledge from one of our ELA Trainers, Freddy Waguespack. We are focusing on this month’s strategy, Anticipation Guides.
We started off with a Think-Pair-Share and got our juices flowing about how to engage students. Our question to focus on was
How can we get students interested in concepts we will be presenting?
Freddy followed this with a prediction guide to demonstrate how we can use them in class to build interest in our upcoming lessons.
The prediction guide that we used had us to read 3 statements and decide whether we believe the statements to be true or false. The strategy called for us to choose a position and defend/explain our positions.
The strategy was a successful one that took a few minutes and allowed us to discuss the reading passage before we were assigned to do so. When we were asked to read, we read with a purpose. We wanted to confirm or refute our earlier predictions.
Great strategy!! Thanks for sharing with us Freddy.
