EdCamp New Orleans is an unconference.
What Does That Mean?
Come enjoy a day with colleagues from the New Orleans area and beyond. Arrive with an idea for a session that you would like to lead or with the anticipation of a full day of learning. A session might explore a technology tool, a discussion about best practices, or a collaborative presentation with multiple facilitators.
If you are interested in attending, presenting, sponsoring, or ???? Please let us know. I discovered this edcamp site and think that the unconference idea is such a good one that I would hate to see us not to support one another and make it happen.
Let’s bring edcamp to New Orleans and show the world that NOLA can Learn and Share as well as Party.
Now, we have a lot of planning to do and must get organized.
First: Determine a mission/goal for the event.
- Who is our target audience?
- What types of discussions would we like our audience to have?
- Enlist the help of others–an unconference is hard to put on alone!
Second: Take care of the “big stuff”
- Find a location, date, and secure insurance for our event.
- Decide how we will handle the finances
- Assign roles to organizers
Third: Get funding!
- Develop a press release
- Contact potential sponsors
- Prioritize our spending
Fourth: Do all the “little things.”
- Get a website up and running.
- Determine if we will provide food.
- Decide on any little “extras” (lanyards, t-shirts, etc.).
- Survey our space and decide how many rooms we will have
- Create a scheduling board
If anyone else thinks that this is a good idea,
we need to spread the word and get organized.
